Details of what we did at St Mary's & St Luke's to mark the Centenary of end of World War 1

Remembering The Local Men Who Never Came Home

Picture
At the 10.40am service at St Mary's on Sunday 11 November 2018 we remembered by name the 16 men from Wistaston, Rope and Willaston who died in the First World War (1914-18) and are commemorated on the War Memorial in St Mary’s Churchyard which was dedicated on 20th February 1921.

War Memorial Centenary Project 2018/19

Picture
We held an Open Afternoon on Saturday 10 November in St Mary's Church, 2pm - 3.30pm, to launch the War Memorial Project which will commemorate the centenary year of the end of WW1. This project will give safer access for all to the War Memorial in the churchyard at St Mary’s with new paths, a safer area to view the memorial and lay wreaths with a railing and a better paved area around the memorial. We are working in partnership with Wistaston and Rope Parish Councils.

There But Not There
A Nationwide
Installation
for the Fallen

Picture
We secured a grant from the Armed Forces Covenant Trust to buy 6 transparent ‘silhouettes’ of military figures, this is part of a nation-wide art installation to remember the fallen of the First World War. It is called ‘There But Not There”.

We will used the ‘silhouettes’ at the Open Afternoon and at our Remembrance Sunday Service on 11th November at 10:40am and inviting schools and the community to come into church around that time to reflect.
