The War Memorial in St Mary's Churchyard
See below for the War Memorial Centenary Project
The 16 men from the parish of St Mary’s Church, Wistaston (Wistaston, Rope and Willaston) who died in the First World War (1914-18) are commemorated on the Memorial Cross in St Mary’s Churchyard which was dedicated on 20th February 1921.
Opposite is the front of the service order that was used in 2014 when we commemorated the centenary of the beginning of World War One as we stood around the war memorial. More details on the sixteen men mentioned can be found on the Wistaston Community Council website by clicking here. |

War Memorial Centenary Project 2018/19 |
|
We held an Open Afternoon on Saturday 10 November in St Mary's Church, 2pm - 3.30pm, to launch the War Memorial Project which will commemorate the centenary year of the end of WW1. This project will give safer access for all to the War Memorial in the churchyard at St Mary’s with new paths, a safer area to view the memorial and lay wreaths with a railing and a better paved area around the memorial. We are working in partnership with Wistaston and Rope Parish Council.
